American Flag Drop Boxes | Flag Retirement Ceremony

American Flag Drop Boxes

June 14th was Flag Day and our family had the honor of attending a Flag Retirement Ceremony conducted by The Blairsville Boys Scout Troop 101 and the Sons of the American Revolution. During the ceremony, the first of four American Flag Drop Boxes, custom painted by George Lochli, was presented to the Leon C. Davenport Veterans Center by Eagle Scout Hunter White.

The ceremony took place at the Fire Pit behind the First United Methodist Church in Blairsville, GA. It was a beautiful evening for such a moving event. Hunter did a fantastic job with his presentation and we were very impressed by this bright young man! The American Flag Drop Boxes were commissioned for his Eagle Scout project as a service to the community.

George was extremely honored that his work was featured in this solemn and moving ceremony and he looks forward to seeing the other American Flag Drop Boxes that he painted placed throughout the area. Be sure to follow George’s Facebook page for announcements about where the other three drop boxes will be placed.

“This Friday, June 14th is Flag Day and the Blairsville Boy Scout Troop 101, in conjunction with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will be conducting a “flag retirement” at the “Fire Pit” behind the First United Methodist Church (on the 4-lane in Blairsville, west of McDonalds) starting at 6:30PM. Many American Flags will be properly disposed of by the Scouts in a very respectful manner. Also, Hunter White will be presenting the first (of four) hand-painted American Flag Drop Boxes, the first of which will go to the Leon C. Davenport Veterans Center. These artistic creations of George Lochli will be on display for the public to view, along with some of his patriotically-themed artwork (for viewing only). Please come and support the local Scouts in their endeavor to respectfully retired Old Glory. “
